CHRISTCHURCH TOURISM APPOINTS NEW CHIEF

Vic Allen has been appointed as new interim chief executive for Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism (CCT).

Allen will join CCT later this month. His tenure is expected to be a short one, however, with Christchurch City Council proposing to merge CCT into a new tourism, events and economic development entity.

Allen will stay in the position until the new entity is operational and takes over from Tim Hunter, who is leaving to become Southern Discoveries chief executive in Queenstown.

Allen previously held senior management roles at Christchurch Airport for 20 years before moving overseas in 2006 where he worked in airport development in Oman.

CCT board chairman Dave Hawkey said Allen’s knowledge and experience would help guide the region’s tourism industry as it headed into the new structure.
