TRIPADVISOR TOP 25 LANDMARKS

TripAdvisor has announced the top 25 landmarks around the world in its 2016 Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Coming in at the top of the list is Machu Picchu, Peru.

“We rounded a wall, and there before me was the city laid out in all its splendor, shining in the bright sun. It was all I had hoped.”

For the landmark, TripAdvisor named the Travellers’ Top Experiences to Book Ahead as the Machu Picchu Guided Group Tour from Aguas and the Machu Picchu Tour from Cusco.

In second place was Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“Grand is an understatement. The architecture, the white marble and the beautifully maintained green gardens are stunning.”

To experience the mosque, a City Tour of Abu Dhabi: Sheik Zayed Mosque and a Full-Day Abu Dhabi City Tour from Dubai were recommended.

The third top landmark was Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

“Simultaneously eerie and majestic and in miraculous condition. A truly memorable experience, like absolutely nothing else.”

Travellers could see Angkor Wat by booking a full day Angkor tour by Tuk Tuk from sunrise or a Half-Day Bike Tour from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat.

Next was St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Italy.

“When you walk into the dome and the light shines through the windows and catches all of the gold, the building begins to glow.”

Voted fifth was Taj Mahal in Agra, India.

“Simply the greatest architectural achievement on earth, not to mention a testament to love. You haven’t lived until you’ve visited.”

Also making the list was the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba in Cordoba, Spain, Church of the Savior on Spilt Blood in St Petersburg, Russia, The Alhambra in Granada, Spain, Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, in Washington DC, District of Columbia, Milan Cathedral in Milan, Italy, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, Hagia Sophia Museum/Church (Ayasofya) in Istanbul, Turkey, Grand-Place in Brussels, Belgium, Eiffel Tour in Paris, France, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, Great Wall at Mutianyu in Beijing, China, Acropolis in Athens, Greece, Corcovado – Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Big Ben in London, United Kingdom, Chichen Itza in Chichen Itza, Mexico, Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) in Bangkok, Thailand, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia, Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia and finally Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine in Kyoto, Japan.
