EXTENSIVE REFURBISHMENT FOR MERCURE

AccorHotels has announced the closure of the Mercure Wellington hotel for a full refurbishment to commence from September 1 2016. The hotel is expected to re-open in late January 2017 following an investment of $10million to upgrade the guest rooms and public areas.

Senior Vice President Operations, New Zealand, Fiji & French Polynesia, Chris Sedgwick said: “Our guest’s comfort is at the centre of the decision to refurbish the hotel and given the extent of the changes required, it was deemed the hotel would not be able to effectively deliver the level of guest comfort required whilst operating during the refurbishment.

“We are now focused on working with clients and guests to relocate existing reservations to other AccorHotels in Wellington during the refurbishment period. Hotel staff will be offered employment at other AccorHotels across the network where possible,” said Sedgwick.

The $10 million investment in the refurbishment of the hotel will see it reopen as a 4.5-star hotel featuring 114 modernised guest rooms and suites, six conference rooms and a stunning restaurant and bar overlooking the city.
