Airbus has ambitious plans for their new A330 and A350 aircraft. The expansion begins with the addition of bunk bed style sleeping modules, but that’s just the start of their plans. They intend on adding children’s playground equipment such as slides to their airliners. They also plan on adding conference rooms, bar and lounge modules, as well as a medical care zone.
“This approach to commercial air travel is a step change towards passenger comfort. We have already received very positive feedback from several airlines on our first mock-ups.” Geoff Pinner, Head of Airbus Cabin and Cargo Programme, said in a statement.
The sleep modules will be in the aircraft’s cargo compartment but will be readily interchangeable so that the cargo will not be affected. The expansions will be available on their new airliners and as well as being retrofitted into their existing fleet.
The improvements are coming from a partnership with seat manufacturer Zodiac Aerospace. The additions are planned to arrive by 2020 and will come to the A330 aircraft first, before expanding across to their other airliners.
