Beginning 24 July, Cooke’s Restaurant at Auckland’s Hotel Grand Windsor is hosting their own take on high tea, known as ‘Vari-tea’.

Vari-tea is served with all the classic English afternoon tea treats, except with a modern twist – the food is served on granite slices rather than a round tier. It will feature delicate canapes of house-cured salmon, dill in a pastry cone, crisp fried arancini with aioli, as well as sweet treats such as geranium truffle pop tarts, mini lemon curd tartlets, and black forest verrine.

Taking cues from its British heritage, Cooke’s is bringing back classics buttermilk scones with strawberry and rose preserve, dainties such as elderflower profiterole, marzipan cupcake with citrus sour cream, sandwiches of chicken and walnut, ham and cheese, and classic egg mayo.

Vari-tea also offers a selection of fifteen different loose-leaf teas, ranging from black, white, fruit teas, caffeine free, herbal and tisanes. Tea will be served in fine bone china from the T2 Tealidoscope signature range, continuing the tradition of beautiful tea presentation that is a part of all the boutique rooms in Grand Windsor.

Vari-tea begins on 24 July. Bookings must be made twenty-four hours in advance.
