Hyatt Hotels have joined the ever-growing list of hotel companies phasing out plastic straws.

After September 1, 2018, straws and plastic picks will only be available to Hyatt guests on request. Instead, eco-friendly alternatives will be provided where possible. This policy will come into effect across all of Hyatt’s hotels and food and beverage offerings.

“Eliminating plastic straws and drink picks builds on the environmental sustainability programs we have in place and further drives our global efforts to reduce environmental impact,” said Frank Lavey, senior vice president, global operations for Hyatt.

“This is a meaningful step, and our commitment doesn’t stop with straws and drink picks. We will continue exploring viable alternatives everywhere we can.”

Hyatt has previously made efforts across its portfolio of hotels to minimise food wastage, source products responsibly and reduce energy and water consumption.
