The owner of the 100-year-old historic Cambridge Masonic Hotel is planning to give the property a makeover. Gerry Westenberg, the owner of the hotel, told the public his plans at the town’s library.

“My aim is to develop the building into a high-end boutique hotel, playing on the strengths of its heritage and the architecture, and one which the Cambridge community can once again be truly proud of," Westenberg said.

Once redeveloped, the hotel will operate with 32 rooms. The plans have been put before Heritage New Zealand, and development on the renovations will begin once consents have been approved. As part of the makeover, the hotel is also removing its gaming machines.
