New Zealand tourism students doing their final year of tertiary study in 2019 have an opportunity to apply for two $4000 scholarships to help them advance their careers.

The Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust Academic Scholarships are available for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents completing their final year of tourism-related tertiary study.

“The tourism industry offers a huge range of jobs and career pathways to young people, and positions are available in every region, often in locations where few other opportunities exist,” said Chris Roberts, chief executive of Tourism Industry Aotearoa which manages TINZT

“Whatever your passion, you can have your career in tourism. And for the sustainable success of our industry, we need to attract talented young people.”

The scholarships are open to New Zealand citizens who have begun their tourism-related study at an NZQA-accredited tertiary institute in New Zealand.

The scholarships include:

  • A $2,500 payment towards the student’s final year of study in a tourism-related tertiary course.
  • Attendance at the Tourism Summit Aotearoa which includes travel costs and accommodation.
  • A day of placement and networking with Wellington-based tourism operators and organisations.
  • Assistance from TIA to meet tourism operators and organisations from the successful applicant’s region.
