TRAVELODGE TO DEBUT IN AUCKLAND

TFE Hotels is joining the growing list of hotel projects on Auckland's waterfront, with a new 154-room Travelodge Hotel opening in 2020.

Infratil Infrastructure Property announced the development of six buildings in Wynyard Quarter, one of which is the Travelodge which will have ground-floor retail and aims for completion around May to June 2020.

This opening date times well with the America’s Cup in 2021 which will bring thousands of spectators to the Waitemata Harbour.

Designed by Peddle Thorp Aitken architects, the hotel will be the third Travelodge property in New Zealand, following Travelodge Wellington which opened in 2013 and Travelodge Palmerston North which was purchased by Distinction Hotels in 2014.

“Travelodge Hotel Wynyard Quarter will be in prime position to make the most of the increased volume of travellers to the city, and the future growth expected by the new development coming to the area – the NZICC in late 2019 and the America’s Cup and APEC Summit in 2021,” said Allan Vidor, chairman at TFE Hotels. “This will be an attractive, contemporary hotel in keeping with this world-class development on the western waterfront. It will add to the sense of vibrancy that is drawing thousands of visitors to the precinct each week for work and each weekend for its cultural attractions and retail and dining offerings.”

TFE Hotels had previously announced construction had started on its other Auckland waterfront project, The Hotel Britomart.
