The UK’s biggest hotel brand, Whitbread, has revealed a new budget brand: ZIP by Premier Inn. Its philosophy is to “do the essentials brilliantly, then take away everything else”, and its price reflects that, as guests can stay for as little as £19 (NZD$38) per night.
Each of the 138 rooms in the pod-style room will be only 8.5 sq m. The rooms are uniquely flexible, and can be made of a single foldout bed, twin single beds, or pushed together to form a double bed. Despite the minimalist mantra, there’s still a TV, a small bathroom with a shower, and overhead storage and hangers, similar to in-flight storage.
The first ZIP is opening March 2019 in Cardiff.
