Carterton wants a hotel

Carterton District Council is considering selling a plot of land next to its events centre for just $1 if that’s what it takes to attract a hotel investor.

The proposition gives investors the opportunity to build an 80 to 100 room hotel in a prime location in Carterton for next to no cost. The site where the hypothetical hotel would be built is currently being used as a council depot.

The idea comes from an Economic Development Advisory Group discussion which suggested a hotel would fit Carterton’s visitor and tourism strategy and would increase the use of the nearby Carterton Events Centre.
