Queenstown Rydges rooms staying open for another month

Rydges Lakeland Resort Queenstown will not close any rooms for earthquake repairs until March 17.

While originally scheduled to close two-wings at the end of February, the hotel has postponed the closing until March 17, meaning the hotel can remain at full capacity during the peak conference season.

Although Rydges has 15 years to meet the seismic standards, it opted to fix the buildings as soon as possible.

While the central building which contains conference facilities, the restaurant and bar and about half the rooms passed the minimum seismic standards, the two-wings in trouble hold 89 of the hotel’s 165 rooms.
