Australians are appreciative of international tourism and think it makes Australia’s economy stronger.

According to a Tourism and Transport Forum survey conducted in conjunction with Nielsen, 78 percent of those surveyed believed tourism boosts the economy and 57 percent believed the government should invest more to promote Australian tourism.

“These survey results are important, they make it crystal clear that Australians understand the value of the tourism industry,” said Margy Osmond, chief executive officer, Tourism and Transport Forum.

Among the participants, 65 percent felt it is time for the Australian government to prioritise tourism.

“Real Aussies are telling us what they want more tourists and these results should send a strong message to the government about the need to support and invest.”
