Banwa Private Island in the Philippines has suddenly closed, just months after advertising itself as “the most expensive resort in the world."
The property was forced to close as it is being investigated by Philippines authorities for opening without the required government permits.
An update on the resort’s website said the property “will become wholly available for charter upon finalisation of pending regulatory documentation, which is expected imminently.”
A stay at the resort costs $100,000 a night, with a minimum three-night stay. However, the resort will stay closed until it has the necessary accreditation from the Department of Tourism.
