SAL’S ACQUIRE CAPTAIN COOK GROUND FLOOR

A gastro-pub at an iconic Dunedin hotel is shutting its doors to make way for a pizza outlet, less than two years after opening.

The ground floor of the Captain Cook Hotel will be closed from September, with New Zealand-based pizza company Sal's taking over the lease.

Hotel operator Mike McLeod took over the Great King St pub in 2018, after it closed in 2013 following more than 150 years of operation. The upstairs premises will continue to host live music events and a small kitchen will be installed to enable foodservice.
