STRIKE CONTINUES IN FRENCH POLYNESIA

The hotel strike in French Polynesia looks set to continue.

Four men were sacked by the Intercontinental hotel Moorea in August, following reports by a female employee that she had been raped by them three months earlier. They have since been detained for questioning, but police laid no charges and freed them whilst continuing their investigation.

150 members of staff have since gone on strike, demanding that the four employees be reinstated.

Local TV said the strike, which has been ongoing for several weeks, has caused the hotel to lose NZ$3.1 million as the occupancy rate has dropped to 30 percent.
