BYRON BAY PUB SALE BREAKS RECORDS

A popular Byron Bay pub has been sold for a record-breaking $100 million.

The Beach Hotel on Main Beach was bought by investment bank Moelis Australia, with billionaire and Merivale CEO Justin Hemmes and the Laundy family reportedly showing interest in the property.

The hotel and pub - dubbed 'Beachie' - features 25 luxury boutique rooms, as well as a pool and a beer garden. It was built in 1990 by Crocodile Dundee producer John Cornell. Previous owners Impact Investment Group have sold the pub after a number of unsolicited approaches for the property.

The establishment was sold to Melbourne businessman and race car driver Max Twigg for $44 million in 2007, and two years ago its freehold was nabbed by Impact Investments Group for $70 million.
