THE LUCKY TACO

Sarah and Otis Frizzell own and operate The Lucky Taco, a range of authentic and fresh Mexican products. A formidable creative duo with complementary artistic talents, each has brought to the coalition an overabundance of enthusiasm and insight and chatted to the team about all things taco.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

Sarah was born in England near Liverpool and graduated with a first class B.A. with Honours in Visual Communication from Edinburgh College of Art.
Fundamentally an artist, Otis has worked as a creative, television presenter, innovator, hip hop performer, radio personality, tattooist and graphic designer.
During the past three years, the award-winning taco truck has made more than 150,000 tacos for an ever increasing taco loving population. Demand has been so great, Sarah and Otis remortgaged their house and converted their garage into a fully functioning commercial kitchen.

What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

Products include Chipotle Chicken Taco Kit, Sizzlin’ Steak Taco Kit, Pink Pickle, Exciting Carrots, Chilli Salt with Lemon n’ Lime; which won Silver at Zest Fest USA 2016, Habanero Hot Sauce, Jalapeno Hot Sauce; which recently received Gold in the medium heat category at Zest Fest USA 2016, Chipotle Hot Sauce; which won Gold at Australasia’s Mr Chilli Awards 2015 and Silver at the World Hot Sauce Awards in Louisiana 2016.

Has there been any recent company news?

Yes, we are looking to expand, by firstly ranging into the new Countdown on Ponsonby Road, and also now with our chilled products into New World College Hill where we already stock our hot sauce and chilli salt. New World Havelock North has also just requested our chilled product.

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

We are just in negotiations with a chilled distribution partner to help us manage this growth. We aim to be nationwide by the end of 2016.
The ultimate aim, of course, is world domination of the taco federation.

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?

Available in the fresh/chilled section at selected Auckland New Worlds, Farro Fresh and Nosh Food Markets.
