According to the latest figures released by Hotel.com, the average price paid for a hotel room in New Zealand has risen 2 per cent to $176 a night. The rise comes of the back of another hugely successful year for New Zealand tourism, with almost 3.5 million foreign tourists visiting our shores.
Queenstown showed the greatest increase of 13 per cent on the 2015 average of $241, the single greatest increase for the top 20 New Zealand destinations. Auckland was still the most popular destination, at an average of $197 per night, a nine per cent increase on the previous year.
On the flip side, the average price per night for a room in Picton dropped to $140, a ten per cent decrease on 2015. Hamilton was the most affordable, at $136 per night.
