New Water Technology to Fight Depleting Freshwater

Known for its extravagant cities and resorts, The United Arab Emirates faces a serious depletion of its water resources. According to a report by the Emirates Industrial Bank, the UAE has the world’s highest per capita water consumption. Delta Hotels by Marriott in Dubai Investment Park has launched a sustainability initiative to address the problem.

Marriott’s collaboration with AirOWater aligns with the brand’s commitment to sustainability. New technology built by India-based AirOWater transforms humidity in the air into sustainable drinking water for hotel guests. The initiative targets the global shortage of clean drinking water and replaces plastic. It seeks to fight the UAE’s exhaustion of natural freshwater, which is projected to run dry in just fifty years.

Delta Hotels by Marriott, Dubai Investment Park, will be the first Marriott International property in the Middle East to work with AirOWater. General Manager, Raja Zeidan, emphasised the importance of focusing on sustainable options in hospitality.

All of us in hospitality need to focus more on sustainability and look for solutions together to eliminate plastic bottles in our properties,” said Zeidant. “The consideration of how we use water, and the containers in which water is stored, is a good starting point; however, we plan to invest a lot of time and energy into sustainable initiatives for the future of our hotels.”

Two AirOWater Atmospheric Water Generators (AWG) units are installed in the hotel, and they will produce a range of 500 to 1,000 litres of water in one day. AirOWater utilises moisture content in the air, creating drinking water through a four-step filtration process. The machine needs a minimum humidity level of approximately 50 percent for optimum performance.

Filter AirOWater glass bottles are stocked in all 246 guestrooms, restaurants, meeting facilities, spas, and gym centres. No plastic bottles are used in public or staff areas. With every 1,000 litres of water produced by the AWG units, the hotels save 11,000 kg of plastic, and reduces water wastage.
