Fiji Resort Buzzing With New Project

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort think the latest project to land at the coastal paradise is truly the bee's knees.

The Natadola honey beehive project has seen raw honey used across the entire hotel to coincide with the sustainable goals outlined by the resort.

Over 60,000 bees have found a home at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort, spread over six different beehives located in the surrounding gardens. The project aims to restart the resort’s honeybee programme. This is allowing honey harvested at the resort to be used in breakfast dishes, as well as featuring in the honey-glazed scones, honey macarons and honeycomb chocolate truffles served at high tea. The resort’s bar has also invented a limited edition Natadola Honey cocktail.

The raw honey will also be used in a 90-minute spa experience as an ingredient in a sugar and honey scrub and yoghurt honey wrap and facial.

General Manager for the South Pacific area, Lachlan Walker said it is a thrill to launch the honey project and to take a significant step towards the long-time goal of the resort to be self-sustainable.

“Our guests will have the opportunity to experience the unique taste of our home-grown raw wild honey in various aspects of their stay, including breakfast at Navo Restaurant and our signature Spa InterContinental treatment,” Walker said.

“This project aligns with our sustainability initiatives, and we are excited to offer our guests a truly immersive and sustainable experience.”

Resident beekeeper, Simione Neirube has harvested around 60 litres of honey since the programme began, with the six beehives installed in May last year. The resort plans to harvest enough honey to last a year-round cycle.
