AUSTRALIA | Queensland will continue its strive towards an elevated tourism industry, outlined in the plan for Destination 2045.

Queensland’s Crisafulli Government has secured another key partnership to deliver initiatives from the visionary 20-year tourism plan, Destination 2045.  

The state’s 65,000 tourism-related businesses will benefit from the AUD 6.8 million, four-year partnership with the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC), the State’s peak tourism industry body. 

It was revealed that the former Labor Government had slashed funding for tourism, which would have reduced support for tourism operators to improve their capability ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

Tourism supports one in 11 jobs in Queensland, which is why, at the heart of the Destination 2045 strategy, the Crisafulli Government will work with operators to ensure they can grow.  

The QTIC agreement will focus on streamlining funding, enhancing industry engagement and bolstering workforce development programs. 

Tourism Minister Andrew Powell announced the QTIC partnership at the World Tourism Day celebration on 10 September, an industry event to celebrate the monumental year of tourism to date. 

“Queensland is the home of the holiday, and our tourism operators are part of what makes our great State so special,” Minister Powell said. 

“Destination 2045 reflects what the Queensland tourism industry asked for and now we are partnering with them to deliver it. Partnerships like these are possible because of our Government’s AUD 1 billion investment in the industry.” 

Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Natassia Wheeler welcomed the new partnership with the Queensland Government.  

“The partnership agreement answers the industry’s call for funding that supports reinvestment and capability-building, not just new projects. It delivers programs that will help our workforce, elevate inclusivity, and prepare Queensland for Brisbane 2032 and beyond,” said Wheeler.

“Importantly, the partnership preserves QTIC’s independence while ensuring every dollar invested by the government goes towards tangible outcomes for industry. In addition to this new partnership, the initiatives launched at the World Tourism Day celebration are a further vote of confidence in Queensland’s tourism industry. 

She added that this commitment equips businesses with the tools, funding and support to strengthen their operations and deliver the experiences that will define the state on the global stage.
