PLANS FOR NEW DISTILLERY

Ardgowan Distillery, based in Scotland, has announced plans to construct a new £12 million distillery at Ardgowan Estate. When complete, the distillery will have a production capacity of around 1 million litres of whisky per year and will have six timber-clad washbacks and two copper stills.

Construction is set to begin early next year with the company estimating the facility will be operational by 2020. In future, Ardgowan claims the site's production capacity could effectively be doubled and plans to add more stills and washback in coming.

“This is a state-of-the-art, modern distillery which not only looks fantastic but will reduce our environmental impact wherever possible. Our architects have worked closely with civil engineers Blyth & Blyth and process designers Briggs of Burton to create a striking distillery which fits well in the landscape and uses heat recovery and closed loop cooling to reduce energy use and water consumptions, whilst the extensive use of glass means visitors will get a clear view of the bright, airy interior,” said Martin McAdam, distillery chief executive.

Plans for the distillery have been revealed just a month following the release of the company’s first whisky, Ardgowan Expedition, a 46 percent ABV whisky blend, 20-year-aged. Ardgowan has plans to release more limited-edition products next year.
