Hospo jobs lacking work/life balance

Hospitality has been identified as one of the worst industries for maintaining a good work/life balance, in a survey carried out by a UK recruitment firm.

The survey asked 1,200 respondents whether or not they felt they had a good work/life balance. Over 50 percent (51.4 percent) of hospitality workers felt that they didn’t – second only to leisure and tourism workers, who topped the list at 62.5 percent.

“Achieving a reasonable work-life balance nowadays is certainly challenging, especially if your employer is piling on the pressure and technology is enabling you to work from anywhere, at any time,” said Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library, which carried out the study. “These worrying results from the hospitality sector prove how difficult it is to obtain a good work-life balance. So if you suffer from poor balance, consider what you can do to make it work: whether it’s approaching your boss about creating a sensible work schedule, or making a conscious effort to leave on time.”

Catering also featured highly on the list, with 41.7 percent feeling they do not have the right balance. Additionally, 59.5 percent of all workers admitted to leaving a job due to poor work-life balance, with 97.3 percent saying they feel that the balance is important.
