Accommodation spend decreases

The total accommodation spend in New Zealand dropped by 4.7 percent in the quarter ending March 2019.

The accommodation sector had the second biggest drop out of all industries in the country, only falling below pharmaceuticals and other store-based selling (5.7 percent).

The dip in accommodation spend can be equated to the drop in international visitors in March, where there were over 10,000 fewer arrivals than March 2018.

The decline in international visitors was likely because of 2019’s later Easter holidays.
