A country hotel and pub near Blenheim recently closed its doors after a century of operations - but not before locals packed it out for a proper send-off.
The Junction Hotel and Bar, known locally as "Ol' Junky", is to be bulldozed to make way for a self-service petrol station. It's located at Spring Creek roundabout on State Highway 1.
The pub was packed with locals on Saturday night, celebrating the end of an era as Spring Creek's only watering hole closed its doors.
Speaking to Stuff, vineyard operator Damon Boniface, who was born and raised in Spring Creek, said his first job was working in the Junction as a kitchen hand. "It's been around for ages, this place," said Boniface. "It's going to be sad when it goes. Everybody knows the Ol' Junky."
