Hotel Fitzroy Earns Second MICHELIN Key

Auckland's Hotel Fitzroy Curated by Fable has received a MICHELIN Key for the second consecutive year, reinforcing its position among New Zealand's recognised boutique accommodation providers.

Located in Ponsonby, the ten-room property was one of 28 hotels across New Zealand to receive a MICHELIN Key in 2026, including just three in Auckland.

The recognition followed Hotel Fitzroy's inaugural MICHELIN Key in 2025, with inspectors once again acknowledging the property's distinctive character, design and consistent guest experience.

In their latest assessment, MICHELIN inspectors described the hotel as "one part chic Auckland residence and one part modern boutique hotel", highlighting its heritage architecture, high ceilings, plush furnishings and underfloor-heated bathrooms.

Hotel Fitzroy General Manager Sean Slattery, who joined the property in 2026, said receiving the distinction for a second year reflected the team's commitment to maintaining high standards of hospitality.

"Receiving a MICHELIN Key once was a proud moment. Receiving it again means even more, because it shows the standard we set is one we can hold. The team were thrilled, and rightly so. This recognition belongs to them."

With just ten guest rooms, Hotel Fitzroy has built its offering around personalised service and attention to detail. Guests are offered in-room breakfast, afternoon tea and access to an in-house library, creating an intimate accommodation experience.

"It comes down to our people. With only ten rooms, every guest gets our full attention, and the team takes real pride in the small details that make a stay feel personal. That consistency, day after day, is what earns recognition like this," said Slattery.

The recognition followed a successful period for the property, including a recent collaboration with New Zealand chocolate manufacturer Whittaker's.

The limited-time Hotel Sweet Takeover transformed the boutique hotel into a chocolate-themed accommodation experience, combining the heritage of both brands through an immersive in-room offering.

The promotion sold out within days, prompting the hotel to introduce additional stays to accommodate demand.

Looking ahead, Hotel Fitzroy planned to continue developing its guest experience while maintaining the personalised approach that has become central to its identity.

"We want to keep raising the bar without losing what makes Hotel Fitzroy special," said Slattery.

"That means investing in our team and the guest experience, and sharing the best of Ponsonby with everyone who stays with us. We look forward to welcoming new guests and plenty of familiar faces."

The MICHELIN Key recognises hotels delivering exceptional accommodation experiences, with properties assessed on their quality, character and consistency.

For Hotel Fitzroy, the second consecutive distinction highlighted the importance of maintaining service standards, investing in staff and delivering a consistent guest experience within New Zealand's boutique accommodation sector.
