Air New Zealand says Kia ora World!

Air New Zealand has announced it is eager to welcome and reunite friends and whānau from Australia beginning 13 April, and visa waiver countries from 2 May.

“It’s no secret the past two years have been extremely turbulent for people. There’s a real buzz today. New Zealand holds a special place in many people’s hearts; whether they’re a Kiwi or visitor, touching down on New Zealand soil will be a moment to remember,” said Greg Foran, Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer.

The pandemic has heavily impacted tourism operators throughout the country. The reopening of the borders will allow them to get back up on their feet as they welcome international visitors with open arms.

According to Foran, flights across the Tasman have been exceptionally popular, especially over Easter. To match consumer demands, Air New Zealand has added over 90 flights.

“Pre-COVID-19, Australia was the largest tourism market for both our airline and New Zealand. We know a lot of tourism operators have been missing international visitors, so we’re looking forward to playing our role in New Zealand’s recovery.”

“On our long-haul network, we’re seeing particular interest in journeys from North America around the July holiday period. It’s a sign that tourists still have New Zealand at the top of their bucket list.”

Air New Zealand has over 50 flights weekly on its 15 international routes and will adapt capacity to accommodate the change in demand as New Zealand dives into the winter season.

With the relaxation of the border restrictions, the airline is excited to recruit new associates to join their aircrew whānau . Since October 2021, Air New Zealand has rehired approximately 700 flight attendants and pilots with more windows of opportunities in the pipeline over the year when international passenger volumes starts to grow.
