First Look Inside The Mayfair Hotel

Twenty-three million dollars, and four years later, Christchurch's newest boutique luxury hotel, The Mayfair, has officially opened its doors.

Led by General Manager Rick Crannitch, who brings his premium hotel experience home from Melbourne, guests can expect a fresh take on luxury, where luxury is no longer about formality. Instead, it's calm, thoughtful, and welcoming at every touchpoint, with attentive service.

The overall aesthetic of The Mayfair is contemporary, minimalist and elegantly detailed.

"There's a timeless drama to the black exterior juxtaposed with glass and concrete that gives the hotel an iconic street presence," described Architect Tim Field.

The hotel interior comprises extra-spacious suites, designed with elegant simplicity in mind to help discerning travellers feel at home. Local knowledge and attentive New Zealand hospitality are combined with internationally-sourced premium features such as American oak and Italian ceramics, all carefully accented by mood lighting.

According to Jeff Merrin of Lume Design, the interior design direction was established to complement abundant natural light from floor to ceiling windows. With a strong palette of rich, warm tones, the space exudes a sense of elegance and luxury whilst remaining comfortable and relaxed.

To help reduce its carbon footprint, the new hotel also thoughtfully features guest technology and energy-efficient power conservation systems.

Nestled in the hotel's heart sits Majestic at Mayfair, offering a thoughtful selection of reimagined classics and new favourites. On the day menu is an Instagram-worthy brunch menu by local Executive Chef Nick Tatom, well known for his time at Hello Sunday in Christchurch. Guests can also book to enjoy a unique high tea created by French patisserie chef Aurelien Fermen, before Majestic at Mayfair transforms into a premium cocktail bar at night.

"The Mayfair hotel is another great example of the regenerative, innovative spirit of Ōtautahi Christchurch, and a cornerstone for the revitalisation of Victoria St in particular," shared Lauren Heaphy, Christchurch NZ's General Manager of Destination and Attraction. "With the return of international travellers finally on the cards, this couldn't come at a better time."
