NZ’s Highest Rooftop Bar Opens in Auckland Hotel

The highest rooftop bar in New Zealand has officially opened on the 38th floor of Auckland’s newest lifestyle hotel, voco Auckland City Centre.

The hotly anticipated Bar Albert is poised to become Auckland’s hottest new destination for sky-high gatherings and glamour with its Art-Deco-inspired décor, open-air deck, private event space and panoramic views of the city’s sights, Waitemata Harbour and Waitakere Rangers.  

As the most elevated rooftop bar in the country, Bar Albert’s location on the top floor of voco Auckland City Centre hotel offers guests a sophisticated space to mingle with stunning views and lounge in lavish tan and gold-trimmed leather seating.  

Showcasing a locally inspired food and beverage menu, signature gins and seasonal cocktails that are themed by Auckland Street names, including Eden Crescent, Napier Street, Chancery Street and Market Place. The signature Eden Crescent cocktail features The Roots Dry Gin, Yellow Chartreuse, house-made pistachio & rosewater orgeat, spray of rhubarb bitters, presented in a coupe glass and garnished with dried rose petals. 

Wine lovers can indulge in a local wine produced less than 50 kilometres away from Waiheke’s Man O War or Kumeu River Wines, among other New Zealand and global varieties. Matakana’s Sawmill Brewery features on tap alongside Peroni. East Imperial Tonics are on hand for alcohol-free tipples.  

Bar Albert’s food offerings include an enticing antipasto platter with selections of cured meats, pickled vegetables, artisan breads, dip and olives, small plates, and cheeses. The Napier Street cocktail is best paired with a Charcuterie board, presented with Glenmorangie Nectar D’Or Scotch, and Cocchi Americano Blanco, topped with house-made tamarillo and honey soda with a honeycomb skewer. At Bar Albert, Head Mixologist and Bar Manager Chelsey York can be found crafting cocktails, bringing her American flair to the fine art of making prohibition-inspired craft cocktails. All of the voco hotel’s food and beverage concepts and outlets have been designed in consultation with internationally recognised consultant Shane Giles from Blue Salt.  

“I’m super excited to join the bar Albert team and serve smashing cocktails accompanied by the most incredible sky-high views in our sophisticated, speakeasy-inspired atmosphere,” said York.   

“I’ve designed balanced cocktail menus that feature seasonal produce and are approachable for everyone. I love getting behind the bar and making new unique syrups, dehydrating fruits, creating mixes, and clarifying punches. When I make a drink for someone, everything goes into it. Seeing the guest take a sip and go, “ahhh.” My thirst for knowledge is unquenchable, and so is my thirst for a banging Espresso Martini.”

Bar Albert is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 4 pm until midnight and until 1 am on Friday and Saturday nights. 

Direct bookings are available for groups of up to ten people. Larger groups seeking a private venue to celebrate and enjoy the views can book Bar Albert’s adjoining Wyndham Room with minimum spending.
