University of Virginia Breaks Ground

The University of Virginia (UVA) and its partners have broken ground on a 223,000-square-foot Hotel and Conference Centre in Charlottesville, anticipated to debut in 2025.

The official name of the property will be revealed at a future date and will be managed by Pyramid Global Hospitality.

The Hotel and Conference Centre will anchor the University's emerging and strategically important Emmet-Ivy corridor, a significant entry point and critical link between North Grounds, Arts Grounds, and Central Grounds.

Aiming to become a destination property and convening space for visitors to the University, its local community, faculty, staff and students, the site will offer several spaces for hospitality, business and academic conferences and includes plans for a University welcome area.

Featuring 214 guestrooms and suites, the hotel will boast a central location ideal for all those visiting UVA and the Charlottesville area. It will comprise a full-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor terrace dining, a rooftop café with distant panoramic vistas, and a convenient grab-and-go eatery. There will be 25,000 square feet of technologically advanced meeting and event space, including a 10,000-square-foot ballroom set to become the largest in Charlottesville. The meeting and event venue will be certified by the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and will conform to the University's 2030 sustainability goals.
