Registrations have officially opened for the New Zealand tourism calendar's most significant international trade event. Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ) hosts three days of appointments, activities, and networking functions for business-to-business trade. After three years, TRENZ returns to welcome international travel buyers as they venture back into New Zealand, ready to negotiate business for the busy upcoming season.
Industry leaders and representatives have the opportunity to gather information and showcase their products to buyers. The event is projected to generate $174 of economic impact a minute, benefiting New Zealand’s tourism industry which is struggling to reemerge after Covid.
The host city for the event is Ōtautahi Christchurch, held at the world-class Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre on the 8th-11th of May 2023. Not only is this TRENZ event the first to be held since 2019, but it will be the first in Christchurch since 2006.
Rebecca Ingram, TIA Chief Executive claims that this opportunity is important to show the world how New Zealand’s tourism industry has evolved over the years. With a focus on regenerative tourism, Ingram explains that NZ’s tourism has undergone a significant reorientation over recent years, not just post-Covid.
“Increasingly, our visitors expect that our industry will be acting sustainably, and we expect to see a lot of interest from international buyers in our many sustainable tourism offerings,” said Ingram.
This event is a bedrock for helping New Zealand’s tourism economy grow, opening exciting connections, partnerships, and opportunities for business goers in this industry. Included will be the opportunity to hear from industry leaders about the shape of NZ’s tourism industry. Open discussions concerning NZ’s values and the structure of this industry will be underway, allowing attendees to network, connect, and learn.
Tracey Wilson, Acting General Manager of Destination and Attraction, ChristchurchNZ, emphasises the excitement in welcoming the largest contingent of international travel buyers seen here in years.
“They are going to experience a spectacular range of hotel accommodations, from boutique to global brands, together with a stunning range of visitor experiences,” said Wilson.
An invitation is required to register for TRENZ 2023, which involves meeting strict criteria to ensure the eligibility of attendees. TIA members will receive preferential rates for attending.
Discussing the industry’s recovery and projections for the future will be a hot topic. As New Zealand’s peak industry body, TIA supports the ongoing sustainability of tourism businesses, hosting events like TRENZ to further that support.
