Cambodia to Host 2023 Mekong Tourism Forum

The Mekong Tourism Forum will be held in Cambodia in late April this year, addressing the topic of “Rethinking for Resilience and Digitalisation.”

During the three-day summit, tourism experts and political leaders are tasked with outlining the five key objectives of the forum.

Organised by the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, with assistance from the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office, the main subjects on the agenda are the proposed collective sub-region of Asian countries and the revitalization of tourism post covid.

“The post-Covid- 19 tourism landscape now provides clear opportunities for us to take stock and rethink tourism for the better,” said H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism for Cambodia.

Other discussion topics are the diversification of tourism locations, job creation and gender equality within the tourism industry.

“With my tourism colleagues from around the Greater Mekong Subregion, we will work hard to ensure that tourism re-establishes itself as an engine to create sustainable prosperity for our citizens. The MTF 2023 agenda has a clear focus and will address those issues,” he said.

An expected 150 delegates will descend on Mekong from all over the world.  Also planned is a Sustainable Tourism Exhibit,  highlighting sustainable and responsible tourism, community-based tourism, and local products sourced from communities.

Excursions to local activities are also a planned portion of the summit and include locations such as the Sihanoukville city tour, Koh Rong Island, diving, mangrove tour, kayaking, and community-based ecotourism exploration. Each trip is designed to showcase sustainable tourism practices in the destination.

Registration is now open for the forum through the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office website, with limited spaces available.
