New Supreme Category for Tourism Awards

Entries for the 2023 New Zealand Tourism Awards are now open, with a Supreme Award added to this year's programme.

The new category will celebrate well-rounded, high-performing tourism businesses that have worked towards all areas of the Tourism Sustainability Commitment and have regenerative ambitions. There will be two winners for the award, one large and one small, and will be selected by the panel of nine business award-winning judges.

TIA Chief Executive Rebecca Ingram said the reintroduction of these awards to the line-up is a positive reflection of the industry’s progress and recovery.

“With recent forecasts suggesting tourism is helping New Zealand avoid recession, and the successful return of TRENZ in May, our industry is proving its resilience and moving from strength to strength. Feedback from our members told us the time was right to include these aspirational awards, which set a high bar for our industry and are heavily competed for,” said Ingram.

In addition, there are three awards for individuals who are outstanding performers in the industry and a further nine awards that recognise visitor experience, community engagement, and exceptional Māori operation. Environmental initiatives and employer-of-choice awards will also be presented.

Te Papa Director of Museum and Commercial Services, Jake Downing, said that it is a privilege to host the awards at New Zealand’s national museum.

“We are so thrilled to be hosting the awards at Tākina and having the opportunity to showcase our new venue to the tourism industry,” said Downing.

The awards will be presented on the seventh of November.
