TIA Celebrates Boost For Regional Tourism

TIA celebrates boost for regional tourism

TIA has welcomed the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality's announcement to drive visitor arrivals across New Zealand.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston said the successful regional tourism organisations will receive NZD three million for short, sharp campaigns across regional New Zealand.

“I’m pleased to announce support for six successful initiatives, ranging from the top of the North to the bottom of the South Island. There’s again a strong focus on the Australian market, with one setting its sights on North America,” said Upston.

The NZD three million will support six initiatives from the top of the North to the bottom of the South Island.

The funding has been intended to support short, sharp campaigns delivered between April and July, focusing on key visitor markets to New Zealand, including Australia and North America.

Minister Upston launched the Regional Tourism Boost contestable fund in February. Applicants have been asked to promote quality travel experiences outside of the main tourist hotspots.

“It is so exciting to see this investment, which will support a breadth of initiatives to encourage regional visitation – especially as we head into the traditionally quieter months of autumn and winter,” said TIA Chief Executive Rebecca Ingram.

“We know that there are countless, vibrant experiences for visitors right across our country. It is great to see such strong collaboration between tourism regions in the successful bids. Winter is traditionally a very quiet time for tourism businesses, and campaigns to encourage visitors to come here and experience the best of what we offer are well-timed.”

Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) is New Zealand tourism’s peak industry body. It is the only independent association representing all sectors of the country’s large and diverse tourism industry.

The organisation has about 1,200 member businesses, ranging from small owner-operators to large publicly listed tourism corporations and international hotel chains.

TIA leads the implementation of the industry's Tourism Sustainability Commitment, which aims to see every tourism business in New Zealand contribute positively to the nation’s people and cultures, environment, and economy.
