Holiday Parks NZ has supported the Nelson-Tasman region with funds in the aftermath of devastating natural disasters earlier this year.
Holiday Parks NZ said it was proud to donate NZD 5,500 to the Nelson-Tasman Mayoral Relief Fund. The funds were raised by a number of their park members, to support the communities impacted by the severe weather events on 26–27 June and 11 July 2025, which included at least three holiday parks.
Emily Byrne, Chief Executive of Holiday Parks NZ, said seeing parks step up to support those affected by the storms is heartwarming.
“The Parks are already important within their communities and actions like this remind us of what leadership looks like when it’s rooted in care.”
The funds have already been put to good use, assisting with recovery efforts and providing practical support like food and accommodation for those displaced by the weather events.
The initiative was kicked off with a contribution by long-time industry champion Erna Spijkerbosch, whose deep commitment to community wellbeing continues to inspire action across the sector.
At the Holiday Parks NZ Annual Conference & Expo, held in Whakatū, Nelson, on 21–23 July, Erna called on attendees to join her in contributing financially to the region’s recovery. Her call to action was met with generosity from members, and additional funds collected during the conference quiz night were added to the fund. All contributions are included in the final donation total.
The funding has supported a range of activities including cleaning up silt, debris and gravel from property, reinstating fences, drains and culverts. They have also been used to help replace clothing, bedding, household appliances and motor vehicles that were ruined by flood waters or landslides, reinstating fences, driveways and culverts.
Holiday Parks New Zealand (HPNZ) represents over 230 member parks across the motu, ranging from small family-run operations to large resort-style facilities. Collectively, its members provide 9.2 million stay nights annually (as of April 2025), represent 24 percent of New Zealand’s commercial accommodation sector, and offer a wide range of accommodation, from unpowered and powered sites for campervans, tents and caravans, through cabins, geodomes, glamping, to high-end luxury apartments.
