Scheduled for completion in 2020, the Christchurch Convention Centre is ready for a venue operator to run the facility. Over 20 events have already been booked or confirmed at the $475 million complex between October 2020 and October 2022.
“With development work now complete, construction underway and the marketing effort increasing, the time has come for operators with world-class venue and event management skills to put their hand up to run the centre day to day,” said Chief Executive of Ōtākaro Limited, Albert Brantley, the Crown company developing the project.
In 2014, AccorHotels was chosen as the preferred company to operate the venue but ended up only being involved in advisement for design, operational, and logistical matters during the development stage.
Ōtākaro Limited is open to proposals starting next month, with an operator expected to be appointed before the end of the year.
