Plans for a new $20 million accommodation and retail development in Kaikoura have been revealed.

The property is being built on a 5000 square metre site on Kaikoura’s main street. The land used to house the Adelphi Hotel, but the property was demolished in 2017 following the 7.8 magnitude Kaikoura earthquake.

The building plans to offer 36 managed apartments for short-term visitors and use by owners, as well as retail space. The construction is expected to start in 12 to 18 months’ time and is estimated to cost about $20 million.

Earlier in the year, Sudima Hotels announced a four-and-a-half-star Kaikoura hotel, with 118 rooms, opening in 2019/2020.
