The Queenstown Lakes District Council has granted resource consent for a controversial 113-room hotel in Wanaka.
Two independent commissioners approved the property in the Wanaka subdivision of Northlake.
The tennis court located on the hotel’s construction site (which had been a key point of disagreement for critics of the project) is set to be replaced with a tennis court in a new 1.2-hectare recreation reserve nearby.
“We are delighted to be granted approval for the hotel at Northlake. The District Plan had already zoned this site for visitor accommodation some years ago, and the design has been refined in response to feedback through the resource consent process,” said Chris Meehan, CEO, Winton.
“We are now looking forward to progressing to the next stages of design and planning for the project.”
Work will begin on the project this Spring.
