Boutique hotel brand Hotel Indigo, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts' Luxury and Lifestyle portfolio, has officially debuted in Austria with the opening of Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt.
Located in the 'Margareten' district, a culturally diverse neighbourhood and the city's historic centre, the hotel provides easy access to everything from 19th-century architecture to cosy eateries and secret gardens offering sanctuaries to travellers and locals alike.
Every Hotel Indigo property is one-of-a-kind, drawing inspiration from its distinct locality that tells a unique story celebrating the people, location and experiences.
Featuring 158 guestrooms, Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt brings a touch of botanic vibrancy to its design aesthetic, reflecting the story of the district's secret gardens and hidden treasures through colourful tropical-themed wallpaper and walls adorned with rich plant-inspired artwork.
Taking inspiration from a famed local architect, Otto Wagner, a critical member of the Secessionist movement, guests will discover touches of gold throughout the bathroom fixtures, intricate patterns in the hallway carpets and the tiles behind reception. Otto's love for gold, Art Nouveau design and ornate patterns can also be seen in famous local buildings such as the Majolikahaus, a short walk from the hotel. From ground level, the structure appears understated, but as guests look skywards, they will witness top floors decorated with exquisitely sumptuous floral motifs in brightly coloured porcelain and gold leaf, a hallmark of the new style.
"We are pleased to open our doors and accept our first guests into the first Hotel Indigo in Austria. We sit in the heart of the surrounding neighbourhood and strive to make all the locals proud by helping to bring a bit of that external story in so guests can truly experience what Vienna has to offer," said Stefanie Augustin, General Manager, Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt.
Upon arrival, guests staying at Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt will be met with a bronze metal façade that pays homage to the city's evolution into the modern design scene. The entrance is small and understated, meandering through a long corridor embellished with green planting to the "hidden" hotel lobby and public space.
At the hotel's heart lies an atrium illuminated with natural light and decorated with native hanging plants, bee-friendly flower and herb beds and various trees, creating a harmonious shift from urban living to a haven of peace.
Not forgetting the area's silk-producing past, visitors will also see patterns and textures subtly inspired by the heritage integrated into the soft furnishings. Traditional Viennese lace and nettings patterns show on the bedroom rugs' chairs, and lamps.
Continuing the secret garden theme, Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt features a rooftop garden resembling an urban jungle, with the hope of building a new habitat for insects and birds, helping contribute to the biodiversity surrounding the hotel.
Pigment, the onsite restaurant, draws inspiration from the nearby Naschmarkt, a fusion of cultures and culinary delights, and brings locally sourced ingredients to life. The restaurant's signature dishes also reflect the hotel's overall foliage theme and serve simple vegetables and greens presented in a fresh and contemporary way. On the hotel's ground floor, there is also a lobby bar for guests to indulge in snacks and cocktails created by the team's talented mixologists.
