This spring, QT Hotels will give away one year's worth of free stays in exchange for unusual items of personal – and questionable - value.
As a leader in quirky luxury with an unmatched flair for theatrics, QT Hotels & Resorts has introduced Curious Currencies, a stranger way to pay. This unique initiative invites people to suggest unusual and curious items they would trade in for a stay at one of their hotels.
The strangest of collected curiosities will be made into two lavishly unique lamps (the Lamps of Chaos) by prominent New Zealand designer, Destroy All Monsters. These artworks will be exhibited at QT Auckland and QT Sydney before being auctioned for charity. The proceeds will go to the New Zealand Arts Foundation and Australian Cultural Fund to further support curiosity within the arts.
Prized possessions with quizzical backstories, serious sentimentality or surprising tales could win those that enter up to one week's complimentary stay at a QT of their choosing.
Cash or card won't cut it, but a stash of old love letters, favourite pair of well-worn Levi's or that rare Pink Floyd vinyl, just might. If the curious currency has value to its owner, it's a perfectly reasonable form of payment - nothing is too strange.
Suppose a curiosity successfully manages to impress or amuse QT's Director of Chaos. In that case, it may be exchanged for a complimentary stay at QT Hotels across New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington or Queenstown) or Australia (Sydney, Bondi, Newcastle, Canberra, Melbourne, Gold Coast or Perth). Participants must be ready to part with their possessions, as winning items, including priceless family heirlooms, will not be returned.
QT is a world unto itself. Their philosophy of 'expect the unexpected' ensures each hotel presents curiosities at every turn of the guest experience. And now, QT is giving the public a chance to experience its unique, quirky luxury by paying with a curiosity of their own
"At QT, everything is far from ordinary. We celebrate individuality and are all about shaking things up, even in how you pay," said Heloise Flores, QT Auckland's Director of Chaos. We're excited about the eclectic curios that will be put forward in exchange for a stay at one of our extraordinary properties - good taste and creativity is paramount!"
The competition runs from 29 September until 31 October 2022. For a chance to win, participants must submit a "curiosity" along with a 50-word blurb and an image via qtcuriouscurrencies.com.
