Expedia has released its Summer Travel Forecast, providing key insights to help tourists plan and save on their summer holidays.
According to Expedia data, flight searches are up 25 per cent overall for June through until August, compared to the same time in 2022, and interest is up triple digits for international destinations across Europe and Asia. In addition, average ticket prices drop $125 from peak prices in early July to August.
Head of Expedia Group brands public relations, Melanie Fish said that in the United States, travellers are clearly ready to dust off their passports and embrace jet lag overseas.
"The data shows the sweet spot for saving on summer airfare is right around the corner, but these days you can actually guarantee you're getting a great deal by tracking flights on the Expedia app or adding Price Drop Protection to your flight, which automatically refunds you if the price drops after you book," said Fish.
The data has some surprising statistics, listing Auckland as the number one trending location for American searches. Long-haul flights have seen a rise in popularity, with Hong Kong and Japan also making the top five locations.
The report also indicated that flights are cheaper between 21 and 60 days out from the departure date. Savings have been evident to around eight percent.
