Marriott International has given a glimpse inside the $25 million refurbishment of its JW Marriott hotel in Auckland.

The first stage of the hotel's makeover will see 40 of its 286 rooms refurbished by September, just in time for bookings to begin.
Marriott has commissioned renowned interior design firm O37 to create a contemporary and chic look inspired by mindfulness philosophy.

Marriott International Area Vice President for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Sean Hunt, said the company is excited to offer guests a glimpse of the renovation.

"The new room designs perfectly encapsulate our brand DNA, reflecting the legacy of our founder J. Willard Marriott's vision of holistic wellbeing and mindfulness — allowing travellers to bring their whole selves and be truly present to experience Auckland to the fullest," said Hunt.

Girish Talreja, general manager of the JW Marriott Auckland, stated that they aimed to provide guests with "thoughtful luxury and modern serenity" by working with O37 and Dinesh Pandey, affiliated with the hotel's parent firm CP Group.

"Each season brings a new chapter to the JW Marriott Auckland story, and as tourism is back on the rise in New Zealand, we look forward to welcoming both local and international visitors with an elevated luxury hospitality experience here in the heart of Auckland," Talreja said.

The rooms will also include a local element, taking inspiration from the New Zealand landscape. Rough and smooth textures are said to have been used in the design process.

Following the hotel's opening, each floor will be progressively renovated one at a time, with the entire hotel expected to be entirely renovated by mid-2024. The dining rooms and lobby are also scheduled for refurbishment.
