Australia’s second hotel by Accor’s Handwritten Collection brand is set to open next week. The 82-bedroom property, Hotel Morris, will open on the 14th of June. The hotel is located on Sydney’s Pitt Street.
The boutique hotel first opened its doors in 1929 and has an Italian Renaissance theme to its exterior. The rooms that have been renovated also take inspiration from that era, with an art deco theme combined with the Australian landscape included throughout the hotel. Golden and mustard-yellow tones have been used as signature theming colours.
Calcutta and blue Roma marble feature prominently throughout the hotel, as well as brass detailing and amber onyx stone finishings. Limited-edition art by local artists has also been commissioned for the refurbishment, with names such as Nick Herd, Gabrielle Jones and Marcus Piper adding their creative juices to the mix.
The building, which was previously Australia’s tallest hotel for 34 years, will include a new Bar, Bar Morris. The 40-seat wine bar will offer a day-to-night menu featuring seasonal produce heavily influenced by Italian cuisine.
Head Chef, Italian-born Rosy Scatigna, will bring her wealth of experience from Michelin-star restaurants she has worked in across Europe. The cocktail menu for Bar Morris has been designed by Tom Bulmer, incorporating Australian and Italian ingredients.
The peach marble bar will be the area's focal point, rippled with rich tones, brass, and tile surrounds. This pairs with a burgundy marble staircase that leads to the bathrooms. The elements used in the fit-out strongly remind patrons of the Italian roots the hotel formerly had, something at the forefront of the entire Handwritten Collection Hotel.
