Jetstar Connecting Australia with the Pacific

Jetstar will now fly between Melbourne and Fiji, having announced a new service that will depart on the 23rd of December, 2023.

The new service will be operated by the airline's new fleet of Airbus321neo LR, which are quieter and more fuel-efficient than the previous aircraft, and will operate three times a week. The service is expected to fly 72,000 customers to the South Pacific island annually.

This is the first service for a low-cost carrier to fly non-stop from Melbourne to Fiji, with Jetstar hosting a 24-hour flash sale to commemorate the occasion.

Chief customer officer at Jetstar, Alan McIntyre, said since the airline relaunched its Sydney to Fiji services, there has been a strong demand from Melbourne travellers.

“Fiji is a hugely popular destination for Australians, and with interest continuing to grow, we’re offering more than 70,000 great low fares seats each year between Melbourne and Fiji. We thank Melbourne Airport for its support of the new route,” said McIntyre.

Chief of Aviation at Melbourne Airport, Jim Parashos, said that he was pleased to hear that Jetstar was introducing flights to Fiji, as travel demand to tropical destinations like Fiji is at an all-time high since the re-opening of international borders.

“Many Victorians are seeking a warmer climate and cultural experiences with short travel times, and now thanks to Jetstar’s low fares there’s even more reason to travel to the South Pacific Islands. Melbourne is Australia’s largest city by population, and we’re glad to see Jetstar recognise our strong outbound demand by adding more capacity,” said Parashos.

Jetstar has only just recently begun flights between Sydney and Rarotonga, using its New Engine Option (NEO). The New Engine Option will also be deployed on the Syndey to Fiji service from the 29th of October, 2023.

To support flying Melbourne to Fiji, the service between Sydney and Fiji will change to three return flights a week from 16 December 2023.
