Coca-Cola x Merlin Entertainments’ Attractions Make Recycling Fun

UK | From a single recycled bottle to a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, Coca-Cola and Merlin are making sustainability fun and rewarding for families across the UK.

For the fourth year running, thrill seekers can win VIP experiences at some of the UK’s most iconic family attractions. By simply recycling an empty 500ml plastic bottle at one of the specially designed reverse vending machines located across Merlin Entertainments UK attractions, people will be in with a chance to win an unforgettable prize experience.

The partnership continues Coca-Cola’s ongoing relationship with Merlin Entertainments, which has resulted in the collection of over 175,000 plastic bottles via the reverse vending machines since their introduction.

This year, the campaign will be bigger than ever. Recycling champions could be in with a chance of winning VIP prizes at Cadbury World, including a delightful Cadbury Character Afternoon Tea, adding an extra layer of excitement to this year’s offerings.

This new location builds on the incredible list of Merlin Attractions, where visitors can win big again, while also doing their part for the environment.

Twelve Merlin Attractions will be providing prizes for lucky winners to enjoy, such as a VIP experience and behind-the-scenes tour in Sharkbait Reef at Alton Towers Resort, a VIP Giraffe Encounter at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, a Snorkelling with Sharks Experience at SEA LIFE Blackpool, plus conquering the 127ft climb of one of the UK’s tallest roller-coasters, The Swarm at Thorpe Park.

Families and friends across the UK will have access to these brilliant prizes by recycling one 500ml drink and will get the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime prize.

“The addition of VIP Cadbury World prizes to our RVM initiative with Merlin is an exciting prospect for our customers and will continue to provide them with an innovative and engaging way to recycle their plastic bottles,” said Jo Padwick, Senior Sustainability Manager at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.

“This partnership is a win-win for everyone involved and ensures that more plastic packaging will be collected and prevented from ending up in waste.”

“At Merlin, we’re committed to creating unforgettable experiences in ways that are both responsible and sustainable. Partnering with Coca-Cola for a fourth year allows us to reward families for making environmentally conscious choices, turning something as simple as recycling a bottle into something extraordinary,” said Sarah Kilgannon, Head of Partnerships UK, at Merlin.

“With Cadbury World joining the initiative in 2025, we’re excited to expand the impact of this campaign and inspire even more guests to join us on our sustainability journey.”

Locations include Cadbury World, Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, SEA LIFE aquariums in Blackpool, Birmingham, Brighton and London, The Blackpool Tower, Thorpe Park, and Warwick Castle.

Machines can be located by asking staff members at the attraction or by using the individual attraction’s app, which guides guests through the parks to recycle their bottles and enter the VIP competition via a website printed on the receipt after recycling.
