Women in Business | Antonela Comuzio, General Manager, TRIBE Auckland Fort Street

Antonela Comuzio

Antonela Comuzio started her career in hospitality in New Zealand 12 years ago, when she arrived from Argentina on a working visa.

Antonela Comuzio began her career as a housekeeper in a hostel in the mornings while working in a restaurant at night, and then moved into hotels, where she worked across a variety of departments.

The highlight of her career so far was becoming a General Manager last year and opening a brand-new hotel, introducing the TRIBE brand to New Zealand.

“Who would have thought,” she said.

The most important advice she has received in her career was to stay grounded and lead by example.

Comuzlo said it was difficult to pick just one mentor throughout her career who has had the biggest influence.

“I’ve had many different mentors throughout my career, and they’ve all shown me different aspects of the business. I definitely learned the most from those who worked closely alongside me, especially the women I worked with when I first started.”

She said they played a big role in shaping her leadership style.

“They taught me how to be professional, deliver great service, and still have fun at the same time. That’s what hospitality is all about.”

She said the industry has changed a lot since she joined. Especially after the pandemic, she said there has been a big shift in how hospitality operates.

“I think many of us realised the importance of maintaining a healthy work–life balance.”

Comzuio would love to see the industry continue to focus on people creating sustainable careers, supporting work–life balance, and developing strong leaders for the future, as well as more female leaders

She added that the people she works with and continue to motivate her, as well as seeing what the next steps in their careers will be.

“I’m motivated by the challenges that arise and the opportunity to keep growing together.”
