Rydges Wellington Airport Welcomes NZAFA

Rydges Wellington Airport

The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has arrived at Rydges Wellington Airport, showcasing flight, movement, sky, waves and surf.

Rydges Wellington Airport has welcomed the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts (NZAFA) into its halls for a limited-run exhibition drawing inspiration from its surroundings; flight, movement, sky, waves and surf are reflected in the 17-piece collection.

Te Manu Muramura brings together local artists in celebration of the everyday environment surrounding the airport, bringing the often-wild surroundings indoors to the corridor linking the hotel to the terminal and convention rooms. The pieces are in a variety of media, including photography, oil on board, acrylic on canvas, mixed media, pastel and sculpture.

All artworks are available for purchase and range from NZD 600 to NZD 12,500.

Jeff Hermes, General Manager of Rydges Wellington Airport, said the exhibition was a great opportunity to support local artists while also offering something new to guests.

“We get to see every day how special Wellington airport is; having these artworks reflect back the surroundings through each artist’s interpretation has not only added a wonderful injection of colour into our spaces, but it’s been a great talking point for guests and visitors.”

NZAFA invited artists to submit artworks and said Rydges Wellington Airport was the top choice for the exhibition due to their support for the local arts, its connection to the community and high foot traffic.

“We’re hugely grateful to the Rydges Wellington Airport team for supporting this exhibition and allowing us to show the incredible local talent for Wellington, Aotearoa and the world to see,” said Wayne Newman, NZAFA president.

The exhibition is on display now until 30 April 2026.
