Building Wealth, Raising a Family & Creating Freedom Through Motel Ownership

At RevenYou, we are fortunate to work in an industry filled with inspiring people, remarkable stories and genuine opportunities for entrepreneurship.

For many people, owning a motel is far more than running an accommodation business. It can provide a gateway to financial independence, business ownership, family flexibility and long-term wealth creation. Every owner's journey is different, but each story offers valuable lessons for those considering their own future in the industry.

Tony and Lynn's motel ownership journey spanned more than two decades and delivered exactly what they set out to achieve: independence, opportunity, and a lifestyle on their own terms.

After spending several years working internationally, Tony and Lynn returned to Australia in the late 1990s with two young children and a clear vision for their future. They wanted to remain their own bosses, create a stable home for their family and build a business that offered both security and independence.

Rather than rushing into ownership, they took a considered approach by managing several motels on behalf of other owners. This gave them valuable hands-on experience in hospitality operations, business management and guest service while also building credibility with lenders.

As Tony points out, banks like experience, and those early years provided the confidence and knowledge needed to take the next step.

In 2000, Tony and Lynn purchased the leasehold of a 12-room regional motel and officially became motel owners. While many aspiring operators focus on coastal destinations, Tony has always followed a different philosophy: "Coastal for show, inland for dough."

With that mindset, their search focused on regional Australia. The property they ultimately selected offered access to schools and school bus routes for their children, a central location close to essential services, strong visibility to passing traffic and a healthy mix of both corporate and leisure guests.

Just as importantly, it provided comfortable on-site accommodation for family life.

For Tony and Lynn, they weren't simply buying a motel. They were buying a home, a business and a lifestyle.
