NORTH ISLAND DOMESTIC GUEST NIGHTS DRIVE JULY RISE

National guest nights for July were 4.0 percent higher than in July 2014, Statistics New Zealand said. “Two-thirds of the rise for July was from North Island domestic guest nights. International guest nights and South Island guest nights also increased, but to a lesser extent,” business indicators senior manager Neil Kelly said.

For July 2015, compared with July 2014, North Island guest nights were up 5.7 percent, and South Island guest nights were up 1.4 percent, domestic guest nights were up 4.4 percent, and international guest nights were up 3.3 percent, 11 of the 12 regional areas had more guest nights, and all four accommodation types had more guest nights.

For the year ended July 2015, national guest nights were up 5.3 percent from the July 2014 year.

The trend for national guest nights continued to rise in July. Seasonally adjusted guest nights rose 1.1 percent in July, following a fall in June.
